Understanding PPI

PPI (Pixels Per Inch) is a measurement of pixel density on a display screen. Higher PPI means sharper images and text, as more pixels are packed into each inch of the screen. This calculator helps you determine the PPI of any display based on its resolution and physical size.

PPI Formula:

PPI = √(width² + height²) / diagonal size in inches

Example: For a 24" monitor with 1920x1080 resolution:
PPI = √(1920² + 1080²) / 24 = 2203 / 24 = 91.79 PPI

PPI Quality Standards:

• <70 PPI: Low quality - pixelation visible
• 70-100 PPI: Standard desktop monitors
• 100-150 PPI: Good quality - HD monitors
• 150-220 PPI: High quality - Retina-like displays
• 220+ PPI: Excellent - Premium displays, smartphones

Common Display PPI:

Desktop Monitors:
• 24" 1080p: ~92 PPI
• 27" 1440p: ~109 PPI
• 32" 4K: ~138 PPI

Laptops:
• 15.6" 1080p: ~141 PPI
• 13.3" MacBook Pro: ~227 PPI
• 15" MacBook Pro: ~220 PPI

Mobile Devices:
• iPhone: 460+ PPI
• Samsung Galaxy: 400+ PPI
• iPad: 264 PPI

Why PPI Matters:

Gaming: Higher PPI provides sharper visuals and better detail
Design Work: Essential for accurate color and detail representation
General Use: Reduces eye strain with clearer text
Content Creation: Better preview of final output quality
Mouse DPI: Higher screen PPI may require adjusting your mouse DPI settings
